BEMER Young Riders Tour: Points chase opens in Compiègne

BEMER Young Riders Tour: Points chase opens in Compiègne

(Compiègne) This weekend the focus of the BEMER Young Riders Tour turns to France: The “Grand Parc” equestrian stadium hosts the 2nd stop of the international jumping series for the U21 age group. The rating competition is the Young Rider Grand Prix on Sunday. On Thursday evening, however, 68 young riders already competed in a 1.45m class. Among them was the current leader in the overall standings, Géraldine Straumann. The Swiss rider was able to win the first stop in Gorla Minore, Italy, and secure an initial lead for the title of ‘Young Rider of the Year’. But while Straumann took it easy with Unbelievable and also conceded a rail, a motivated young Brit put in two speedy rounds. 21-year-old Alexander McLean not only won the time jumping competition for young riders with Don Viepar, but also the CSIU25 event with Non Such Z. Alexander ‘Sandy’ McLean hails from Edinburgh, Scotland and made a huge impression since his days as a pony rider. He scored a hat-trick of Grand Prix wins last year with his top horse Gino F and is considered one of the young talents to keep an eye on this year. Second and third place went to Frenchman Baptiste Eichner with Calyso and Black’n Roll.

Reshuffling the cards

Straumann sits comfortably at the top of the rankings with 20 points, but the cards could be reshuffled on Sunday in the BEMER Young Riders Grand Prix. French show jumper Ramatou Ouedraogo is currently in sixth place with 10 points and has a very experienced horse at her side with the 13-year-old GFE Excalibur de la Tour Vidal. Ridden by the championess Pénélope Leprevost, the grey stallion took part in the European Championships in Riesenbeck in 2021 as well as in numerous Nations Cups and five-star Grand Prix. In Gorla Minore, Ouedraogo, who finished 18th at the European Young Riders Championships in Vilamoura in 2021, already managed the first clear round with her new crack. On Thursday, the pair again remained clear. The runner-up in the ranking, Ebba Danielsson (SWE) as well as Ilona Mezzadri (FRA) and Aaron Tijskens (BEL) are also competing in Compiègne and have the chance to collect more points and improve their ranking.

Grand Parc with top conditions

With the “Grand Parc”, the city of Compiègne and its partners have created a top-class, 10-hectare complex to host events in all disciplines. The stadium was also selected as the “base for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games”. In 2017, all show grounds as well as warm-up and training areas were provided with a new surface in order to offer the participants optimal conditions.

The BEMER Young Riders Tour provides young riders with a bridge into the international senior sport – just as the classic BEMER Riders Tour has so successfully demonstrated for 22 years and still continues to promote new athletes and bring them to the top.
